Hello! My name is Mrs. Bonsteel. I am here to support students, parents and teachers as your Elementary counselor.
I collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff to identify students in need of additional academic and behavioral support. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns about your student.
About Elementary Counseling:
How I spend my time-
Collaborative classroom instruction- Tier 1 45 % of time
I present a weekly lesson in each classroom targeting areas of academic/learning, life/career, multicultural/global citizenship, and/or social/emotional learning.
Systemic Program Management 15% of Time
Serve on:
- Multitiered Systems of Support Team
- Local Case Management Team
- Special Education Committee
- Social Emotional Learning Committe
- Am District Elementary Counselor Representative for Davis School Counselor Association
- Am Jr. Hope Squad Advisor
- Attend IEP and 504 when requested by teacher or parent
- Other community networking/outreach/ resource collecting
- Data analysis
Systemic Approach to Dropout Prevention with Social/Emotional Supports 30% of Time
- Group counseling (Tier 2 -15% of students or less)
- Individual Counseling (Tier 2 or Tier 3)
- Some counseling topics are: anger management, children of divorce/separated/deployed parents, grief, anxiety, depression support, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, organization skills, and more.
- Short-term crisis counseling
- Suicide prevention
- Trauma-Informed/ Restorative Practices (tiers 1,2,3)
- SEL Targeting: managing emotions, goals, empathy for others, positive relationships, responsible decision making,
- self-advocate.
Plan for College and Career Readiness 10% of Time
- College and Career lessons
- Career fair
- College week- March Madness
- Bulletin Boards- create a college and career readiness mindset
- Recess Activities
- Parent Teacher Conferences
- 6th Grade Jr. High Orientation
- Elementary Scholarship opportunities (yes, even elementary kiddos can earn scholarships)
- (Tier 1 Universal 100% of students, Tier 2 Targeted Intervention, Tier 3 Intensive services)
